If you can’t tell yet, I love decorating with books. Partly because we have so many, but also because I think books can be such a personal item to put around your house—adding quite a bit of insight into your tastes. In our living room I have a little end table by the couch with some books stacked up on it, and two magazine racks behind it. Above the magazine racks I’ve hung two original pieces of art featuring ballerinas and flowers (but in a modern and un-childish way) both in a magnificent shade of blue that pops against our white apartment wall.

I used an Andrew Wyeth sketchbook, a book about Lautrec, a photo album from our honeymoon in Hawaii, and a small book about impressionism in this stack. The books in this pile all had neutrals, blues or greens, so they seemed like a good mix; I mostly always group books by color. A small candle and a tiny potted succulent sit on top of the books. Paired with a painted porcelain lamp borrowed from my mom and a photo of us in Bangkok in front of an intricate stone temple, this end table takes on a delicate and artistic flair.

It’s so pretty! I should do something like that because I have shelves full of books and still some in boxes!
