Moveable Type Truck

Thursday, February 23rd, 2012

Kyle Durrie of Power and Light Press set up shop this year inside her 1982 Chevy step van, and left her home in Portland, Oregon to drive across the country and show people about letterpress printing. Last week the Moveable Type Truck came through Greenville, and I got to make a letterpress print!

I think this trip is a really fun and pretty daring idea, and I’m glad Kyle decided to give it a try. The Moveable Type Truck will be on tour through April…check out the tour datesif Kyle’s headed to your area you should definitely go give letterpress printing a try!

And here’s a card from Power and Light Press. The truck in Greenville made it’s stop at our downtown library, so this Library Card Catalog Love Note was especially popular :)

New for the New Year

Thursday, December 29th, 2011

New from Yellow Elm for the new year—cards!

I’ve been designing custom cards and invitations since I was 16, and I’ve redesigned a few of my favorite recent pieces into sweet little cards. They are available just in time for 2012. Each card will be printed on a white linen cardstock with a lovely texture, and all sets come with envelopes.

May you be inspired to write a few little notes to friends and family this new year!

Cheers to 2012!! I hope you have a wonderful, safe new year weekend. We’re looking forward to celebrating with some friends and I’ll be sure to share some photos and a 2011 blog-year-in-review next week. xx

love is in the air

Friday, November 18th, 2011

Ben’s brother got married last Friday, on 11.11.11. It just so happens that he married my best friend, Melissa, who he met at our wedding 2 years ago. It was meant to be! :)

Ben and I had so much fun being a part of this special family wedding. One of my favorite parts was designing their invitations, programs, and favors. Melissa shared her vision with me for a vintage fall look, with mustard, grey, and raspberry colors, and showed me a sweet picture of a vintage bird illustration she liked. I based the main “lovebird” graphic for all the materials on the vintage bird illustration and used her colors throughout. I think all the designs turned out so perfect, and the bride seemed happy too :) I love having extra special clients for my graphic design projects.

Here are some photos of the finished designs, the rehearsal, and the wedding day.

I have so much fun anytime I design invitations for special events. If you have something coming up, perhaps a birthday party, a baby shower, or a wedding, hit me up. I’d love to design a custom piece just for your event!

October Bridal Shower

Monday, October 3rd, 2011

We had a bridal shower here in Greenville for my future sister-in-law on Saturday. All the bridesmaids who live in town put our heads together to plan it. We had the best time, got super creative, and had way too much fun making all of the fall decorations!

One of my jobs was to design the invitations, recipe cards, and food tags. I found a recipe box to match her kitchen and modeled those things after it, as well as pulling in some little vintage birds the bride loved and some of the wedding colors.

I also had a great time making a brooch for the bride to wear that matched our shower colors. We went with this option instead of  a corsage so that she could keep it.

P.S. We made the cake/cupcake stands…tutorial about that coming soon!

old building letters particularly charm & intrigue me. which is why I ran through this field to stand here, just where the paint faded away.
