Wednesday, February 15th, 2012

Have you stopped by the Yellow Elm facebook page lately?? If you haven’t, you might want to check it out…

I am making room for tons of lovely new spring pieces that you will love…and so I’ve reduced a bunch of winter headbands down to just $5! If you want a particular headband, leave a comment on the photo. If you don’t facebook, just email me. I only have one of each (that’s part of what makes them extra-special!) so hurry on over!

Here’s a look at some that are still available the moment I’m writing this post:

*Shipping is $1.50, or local customers can arrange pick-up at the studio.

Hope you’ll be able to snatch some headbands for a steal :)

papernstitch

Tuesday, February 7th, 2012

Yellow Elm is on papernstitch!! I could not be more thrilled to have been accepted to such a fantastic online community. It’s a showcase of “the best in art, handmade, and vintage” and is the perfect place start if you want something handmade but don’t want to have too many options to wade through. Each exhibitor is hand-selected, so it’s kind of like visiting the online version of a wonderful indie craft show. The papernstitch blog is great too!

Here are a few sweet things I spotted on papernstitch (click on each image to link up to the item):

Hope your week has gotten off to a great start :) xx

Show Wrap-Up

Monday, February 6th, 2012

The Valentine show was great! On Friday just a few hours before the show an article about Yellow Elm appeared on our local Patch news site. It was a lot of fun to be interviewed for this and I felt quite proud to see the article all put together :) Be sure to give it a read!

I was so glad to have Melissa Blanton and Kelly Muth join us at the studio and absolutely loved everything they brought.

Kelly debuted a new line of jewelry called Ragged & Funny using vintage buttons and lace — I hear an etsy shop is in the works, but if you’d like to order a piece email her at raggedandfunny@gmail.com. (I already put it an order for a pair of her lace earrings in dark red!)

Melissa had a collection of absolutely gorgeous and very affordable original artwork with her. You can keep up with her artwork online at November Honey. I have a few of her pieces hanging on my walls and love them! Her abstract layered style is wonderful for home, studio, and office decor.

Valentine Show Tonight!

Friday, February 3rd, 2012

I’m so excited that today is finally here! My last few errands are to pick up some balloons and roses and bring hot water to the studio for hot chocolate.

The show is tonight from 6-9 pm at 1279 Pendleton Street in Greenville. My neighbors Crave Pottery and Stylebybecca will be open, and guest artists Melissa Blanton and Kelly Muth will be joining us; Melissa with a new series of paintings, and Kelly is debuting a line of jewelry.

I was interviewed yesterday by a local news organization for an online article about Yellow Elm and the show…If you follow Yellow Elm on facebook I’ll be posting the link today whenever it’s published.  I’ll post it on the blog next week too.

Anyone…off to get some red balloons! Hope to see some of you tonight! xx

Valentine Show and a Winner!

Friday, January 27th, 2012

Please join me next Friday night for the Valentine show at my studio! It’s from 6-9 pm at 1279 Pendleton Street in Greenville. I am so excited about this show and just can’t wait until Friday (though in reality I need to because I have some work left to do!)

My new sister-in-law Melissa will be bringing some of her amazing paintings to show in our studio space as well, and my neighbors Crave Pottery and Stylebybecca will be open.

I’ve been working hard to get lots of new products finished and new pretty decorations put up in the studio. Here are a few peeks at how the studio is looking…

And we have a winner, randomly chosen, from last week’s headband giveaway. Thank you to everyone who entered and for all of your sweet comments!

The winner is… Hannah!!! (and be sure to check out her blog, a cup of subtle tea)

p.s. that cute little sparkly circle in my photo is from Pugly Pixel.

Celebrating Yellow Elm

Thursday, January 19th, 2012

One of my customers sent me this incredibly sweet message a few weeks ago, and I asked her if it would be ok if I shared it on the blog, because it just made me really happy…

I’m so thrilled that Yellow Elm has allowed me to meet some wonderful people, make new friends, and that I have a beautiful and loyal group of customers. I’m just figuring things out as I go along most of the time, reading, researching, and experimenting with lots of new ideas until I see what works.

I’ve stumbled upon a few resources over the past few years that have been really helpful to me as a small creative business owner. The Martha Rules (by Martha Stewart) is a very good read with a lot of practical business advice from the craft queen herself.

Craft, Inc. Business Planner has been an amazing wealth of information. It comes with practical worksheets that you can use for your business, as well as tons of tips and advice on a variety of topics like wholesaling, trade shows, and marketing. I went out and bought this workbook the week Yellow Elm became a thought, and I have lots of notes in it from the early early days! (There is a book as well, Craft, Inc.)

I have Dream Job: A Creative Business E-Course written by Elsie and Emma of Red Velvet. This is one I keep going back to!

On my list to read next: The Handmade Marketplace. And I’m quite excited that Kyla Roma from Freckled Nest is working on an Indie Business E-Course as well!

Have you read any inspiring/helpful creative books lately?

Shortly before Christmas my etsy shop hit 100 sales. This is a really exciting milestone that I’m so thrilled about, and a headband giveaway seems like just the right way to celebrate!

This is one of my personal favorite styles. A pretty dark red felt circle with beautiful beads sewn into the top, set on a comfortable brown fabric band.

Leave a comment on this post and you’ll be entered to win the above headband!

If you’d like to enter more than once, you can (1) like Yellow Elm on facebook, (2) follow Yellow Elm on Twitter (@YellowElm), (3) follow the Yellow Elm blog, (4) blog about the giveaway on your blog, (5) post about the giveaway on your facebook, or (6) tweet about the giveaway. Please leave a separate comment for each “extra” thing you do so I can count you properly :)

Winner will be randomly chosen a week from today! xx

Be Mine??

Monday, January 9th, 2012

I have been a busy bee making new pieces for Valentine’s Day. A handcrafted heart headband might be just exactly what you need to wear in your hair this Valentine’s Day…or better yet, the perfect gift for a special someone!

I also have a few more of these less traditional Valentine’s pieces coming, with sweet little heart buttons and feathers…

All of these Valentine’s Day pieces are available in the etsy shop, and I have more that I’ll be adding soon!

I think Valentine’s Day is the best holiday to find a little handmade item for someone in your life…sister, husband, friend…whoever it may be! Just to spread a smile. There are tons of great finds on etsy.
