New Headbands

Wednesday, May 16th, 2012

I’ve been working on a pretty vintage-inspired lace collection of new headbands…

Each one is hand-felted using a traditional wet-felting process—scrubbed with soap and boiling water—wrapped in lace, with beads and/or pearls delicately embroidered into the felt. These sparkle with a handcrafted vintage flair that will dress up your most casual shorts & tee or add just the right touch to the prettiest dress you picked from your closet for a summer wedding.

Several of these are already listed in the etsy shop…so feel free to go take a peek to get more specific information and see more photos of each headband. The ones not listed yet will be coming in the next few days ;)

New Month – New Goals

Monday, April 2nd, 2012

I’ve come to a little point of transition for Yellow Elm. It’s always scary for me to make a big decision, but I’ve come to realize how important it is to take time to reevaluate when it’s needed and weigh all my options, seek good advice, and keep trying new ways to help Yellow Elm grow.

I moved out of my sweet little studio last week. It has been such a wonderful experience to have my first studio space, and I couldn’t be more thankful for the opportunity. I’ve met so many great people through the studio as well! But it’s time for me to refocus a little bit, so I made the decision to move out.

For my local friends…you’ll definitely still be seeing Yellow Elm around town. I have a few shows in the works already :) And of course my etsy shop, my shop on papernstitch, and the blog and facebook page are all still going strong so that is a great way to check in on what’s happening with Yellow Elm.

Another wonderful new goal for this month is that I’ve brought yoga back into my life on a regular basis. I’ll be practicing at Southern Om, a local hot yoga studio.

Yoga is so relaxing and such a great workout at the same time, and going to yoga classes has become such a peaceful and healthy outlet for my life. I’m so glad I’ve taken the time to make it a priority.

I’m excited about the extra focus I’ll be able to put on making decisions in the near future about the direction of Yellow Elm. And of course I’ll keep you posted on any big news!

Happy April! xx

A Beautiful Review

Monday, March 26th, 2012

I’ve really enjoyed working on a few custom pieces lately. I am always so inspired by what people ask me to create, and it helps me think outside of my own box a little bit :) One of my customers wrote me a beautiful note recently. I was not only thrilled that she loved her Yellow Elm headband, but I was also completely inspired by her words:

It’s such a wonderful reminder that beauty is not about looking great for other people—it’s important to look and feel good for yourself and your overall well-being. Not in a snotty or selfish way, but to be confident about who you are. Sometimes spending the extra second to throw on some lipstick before you dash out the door is just what you need to make the day brighter. And it’s not about wearing the most trendy or most expensive outfit, but wearing what fits your personality and makes you feel your best.

I love that I got to play a small part in helping a friend feel beautiful and reach personal goals!

Now that we are all feeling inspired and cheery on a Monday morning…here’s a special little treat—I have a few pieces on sale in the etsy shop. Each piece is hand-felted from wool using an ancient wet felting process, with special details added in, like beads, flowers, and shells. This is your chance to snatch something handmade for a bit of a steal! ;) Here are some of my spring favorites from the sale:

If you’d like a custom piece that you design based on other Yellow Elm pieces you’ve seen, free to email me about it! yell@yellowelm.com; to see photos of custom pieces I’ve done, visit the custom orders album on facebook.

Hope your week is off to a great start! xx

Photo Shoot

Wednesday, March 21st, 2012

I met local photographer firnFOTO at the Fashion with a Passion event last month, and had the privilege of doing a fun shoot recently with firnFOTO. I styled some Yellow Elm clips in my hair and used props from my studio, like my beautiful guestbook handmade by Christin O’Bryan.

Here are a few of my favorites from the first style I wore. We shot with a second outfit in front of the famous Reedy River Falls in our local park, and I’ll be sharing that look next week.

Check out the firnFOTO facebook page to see more of their work!

Pretty and Green

Monday, March 12th, 2012

Plenty of exciting things have been happening around here lately…

I’ve been sending out lots of orders all over the country, and working on a few custom pieces. So fun! On Friday my friend and artist Catherine featured the Yellow Elm Clemson Collection on her blog…be sure to take a peek at her post! And yesterday Yellow Elm was the featured shop on papernstitch. Super thrilled about that!

I always try to keep my facebook page up-to-date with the very latest, so if you haven’t stopped by there yet be sure to “like” Yellow Elm on facebook for the most recent news and photos :)

There are a bunch of fun new items in the etsy shop, with a special emphasis on green, in case you need a cute way to keep from getting pinched on St. Patrick’s Day! Here are a few…

If you have a coupon from a previous Yellow Elm purchase or special event that you need to use, or have been thinking about getting your first Yellow Elm piece for awhile, now would be a great time to put in your order! Ordering through etsy is super easy and convenient, and your new piece will arrive at your doorstep in a few days. I’d be so excited to get a new Yellow Elm accessory sent your way :)

Happy Monday! xx

Clemson Collection

Thursday, March 8th, 2012

Clemson University is very close to my hometown of Greenville, and it’s so fun to design some special accessories in their college colors.

I had a photo shoot last week with a gorgeous Miss Clemson 2012 contestant, and I just loved being able to capture some great shots with Morgan modeling a few of my Clemson pieces. I’ve got these orange and purple lovelies on the way to Plaza Suite in downtown Clemson…they are the perfect accessories to throw on for any Clemson event!

If you’d like a custom Clemson piece for your gameday wear, feel free to shoot me an email: yell@yellowelm.com
